British Butterflies

Butterflies are the adult flying stage of certain insects. These  belong to an order or group called Lepidoptera. Butterflies are brightly coloured flying insects.  Colours in their wings are made by tiny overlapping scales which refract and reflect light. Like all other insects, butterflies have six legs.  Most adult butterflies will live only a week or two.
